Workshop Descriptions:
1.
Connecting through Photography: Sarit Krupka, photographer and artist, Israel
Photography can bridge worlds, reveal identities, and help us to see old issues in a new light. Connect and inspire through the visual language of photography. Learn about the elements for creating compelling photos and enjoy practicing them.
2.
Black Lives Matter – Race and Social Justice in America: Natalie Mclaughlin, TEAM for All, Baltimore Maryland
In this workshop we will learn about BLM which is a decentralized political and social movement that seeks to highlight racism, discrimination, and inequality experienced by black people in America.
3. Otherness The root of all conflict : Dr. Muli Peleg, Director, Oranim International School, Israel
Otherness is an attitude or a mindset referring to a different individual or group as menacing, destabilizing or inferior. The categorization of Otherness is used as the justification for discrimination and bias against people of other race, color, nationality, ethnicity, gender, religion, or creed. In this workshop we will discuss the meanings and implications of otherness.
4. Unmasked! The Masks We Wear During Dialogue with the Other: Lori Abramson, Co-Director, Galilee Dreamers, Oranim International School, Israel
In the Biblical story of Purim, nobody is what they seem to be. To save their community, the heroes of the story were forced to unmask themselves and others and to reveal their true identities. In this workshop, we will create a simple mask that reflects what we want others to see and know about us. We will discuss how our masks stand in the way of true dialogue with the other and strategies for safely unmasking.
5. Discrimination in the Pursuit of Justice and National Security in the United States: Jonathan Alegria, Fulbright Scholar, Oranim International School, Israel and United States
This workshop will explore how balancing justice and national security through the history of United States has led to social and racial discrimination. From internment camps to 9/11, discrimination has been an unacceptable by-product, and at times the end goal in of itself, in defending the country from domestic and external threats.
